Music is a huge part of my life, as is hearing from the musicians who put pen to paper and created songs I live by. There’s a story behind every great song and oftentimes fans just don’t get the backstory. In an age when anyone with an internet connection can call themselves a journalist you have a lot of subpar quality work. That said, not everything can be learned in a classroom or through textbooks. Being a good interviewer, for example, comes with time and experience. You have to cut your teeth and evolve. You have to truly believe in yourself and go for the big interviews. You might just write for a DIY zine but you have to carry yourself like you work for Rolling Stone. Be humble, but bold. I know this firsthand with my writing and video work in the sport of bodybuilding. After years at it, I think I can hold my own with just about any fitness writer or content creator. And one guy who has really come up as an interviewer and who I watch RELIGIOUSLY is Jason Green.

Waste Some Time With Jason Green!!

Waste Some Time With Jason Green is by far my favorite show to watch on YouTube. And YouTube is all I watch. To put things into perspective, I travel a lot being an immigration attorney (that’s my 9-5’ish). Whatever hotel I go to, whether it’s Chicago, Cleveland, or Omaha, it’s always the same. I get into the room, surf the tv channels, and wind up turning it off after ten minutes opting instead to pull out my phone or desktop and watch YouTube. TV is trash as far as I’m concerned. It feels beneath me to watch what contents the masses. I guess that makes me an intellectual snob, but I know what I like, and I know where to get it. For me, television is as obsolete as the beeper or the VCR.

Flying The Punk Rock Flag In 2022 & Beyond!!

I would love to see DOYLE appear on Waste Some Time With Jason Green. Both guys have NY roots, they’re both seasoned musicians, and they both have a deep musical appreciation for different genres. Jason has long hair and interviews mostly metal artists, but he’s punk to the core. From the shirts he wears to the references he makes throughout his programs – it’s no secret where his heart lies. When I asked him about bringing on DOYLE during this week’s Live show and his co-host Johnny Monaco didn’t know who we were talking about, it made all the sense in the world as to why DOYLE should be on.

The Misfits, while being Punk Rock originals, have always enjoyed love from the metal community. Much like the Ramones and the New York Dolls, The Misfits are absolutely adored by metal fans, even though they’re not metal – they’re PUNK TO THE CORE!!

It makes perfect sense to introduce / re-introduce DOYLE to the ever-growing WSTWJG audience. From what I hear DOYLE only does phone interviews and maybe isn’t the friendliest to interviewers, but I’d say try to get him anyways. People talk a lot of shit, but that’s usually all it is.

As with any musician that’s been doing this 10, 20, or more years, I’m sure there’s some sort of vetting process. Artists don’t have to do interviews. It’s arguable if interviews and/or reviews even help with album or merch sales, anyways, but one thing that’s for sure, is that the fans love them. Real fans want to learn about their favorite artists. They want to know and appreciate the happiness and the pain that goes into writing the music and lyrics to their favorite songs.

A great interview can go a very long way.

Rumors are swirling throughout the music industry that legendary Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars won’t be appearing with the band for their upcoming stadium tour. Stevie Rachelle of Metal Slude apparently broke the story. The TUFF singer and music journalist has a number of sources throughout the Hollywood music scene and has speculated that the Crue will be replacing Mars with John 5.

John 5 has played with the likes Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson to a name a few and is considered a guitar virtuoso in his own right. This of course is not the first time that The Crue (which is code for Nikki Sixx) has considered replacing Mars. Today the reasoning might rest with his health, but there was also much talk about Mick being benched in the mid 2000’s for former L.A. Guns guitarist and then-current Brides Of Destruction axeslinger Tracii Guns. When Guns & Sixx’s friendship soured, Sixx denied ever wanting Guns in the Crue and even went on to get a tattoo of Mars on his leg in 2008 in a tv program with his then-girlfriend Kat Von D.

Sixx may be bored with Mick.

Although Mick has been the only member of Motley to never leave the group, along with Sixx, he does have options. Shortly after the Crue supposedly disbanded for life, Mars called on former Crue lead singer John Corabi to sing on a track for his upcoming solo record. “The Crue” (Nikki Sixx) was said to have gone ballistic and reined Mick in. The song with Corabi was never released and unless I missed it, nor was Mars’ solo. If Mick is officially benched from the upcoming stadium tour what’s to stop him from recruiting John Corabi again – and not just for one song – but for a whole album?

The New Terror Twins?

Who wouldn’t want to see a lineup consisting of say Mars on guitars, Crabby on vocals, maybe Robbie Crane on bass and a kickass drummer like Bobby Rock or someone on that level behind the kit? Again, I just put a fantasy band together that could pack large clubs and theaters if not be marketed to package deals that rock large sheds and arenas! Plus with Crab on rhythm guitar we could hear Mick like we haven’t heard him since 1994! That’s a sound Crueheads and rock fans of all stripes just couldn’t pass up!

If in fact Mars gets shelved for John 5, how will “The Crue” (Nikki Sixx) stop him from moving full steam ahead with his solo record? Moreover, Mars could do the solo and he could join Corabi for a second go of the Crue 94 tour. It could be two shows in one!! I mean Mars’ guitar work on that album was out of this world. How many people (myself included) wouldn’t KILL to see Crabby and Mars doing those songs the way they were intended to be played?!?!

In fact, Mick ranks the ’94 album as one of his Top 3 favorites of the whole Crue catalog!! And I for one think Mick can tour just fine. I think his health issues get used by folks who have ulterior motives but there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s got plenty left he wants to do! PLENTY!

While doing coverage in Bardstown for ExploringKentucky.com I happened to walk by a couple of guys doing sound check in between two buildings on a downtown sidewalk. There were a couple of kids sitting in the background as the guys talked shop. They looked like two established musicians about to take the stage at a large club or theater. While their setup was minimal, it was clear they picked and chose exactly what they needed.

As I walked by filming, I couldn’t help but ask them if I could take a photo. They obliged. In fact, they offered to play a song for the video. Initially, Buckshot George (lead vocals, guitar) started playing a popular mainstream song. As great as it sounded I had to tell him that YouTube’s stringent copyright policies might strip the sound. Almost instinctively Dead End Dave suggested playing an original. Buckshot George – almost on cue – suggested Rooster Run and it was as if he’d read Dead End Dave’s mind. The two started playing the song and nailed it on the first take. Everything was spot on.

Buckshot George’s guitar playing was stellar and Dead End Dave kept amazing time with his epic playing of the cajon. I must admit I was clueless as to what this instrument was. There’s no denying that Dave is an epic percussionist and his familiarity with the instrument is abundantly clear given how he was able to use it during various parts of the song. He basically provided the equivalent (if not better) percussion of a full drum kit. The fact he sat on it and was able to keep his line of vision on Buckshot George, passerby pedestrian traffic (which would otherwise be for a venue packed full of people), and the camera, made his contribution to the entertainment factor quite noteworthy. These guys are clearly great musicians and songwriters but they’re showmen as well.

Buckshot George, like Dead End Dave, is both a talented musician and entertainer. He’s also a very good singer. Aside from a microphone for amplification what you hear is what you get. There was no autotune or other special effects at play. There were no second takes. Everything was studio quality – from a sidewalk in Bardstown, KY!

Also for these guys to freely offer me to tape them playing on a sidewalk you can only imagine how tight their sound is in a club setting or even more so in the studio. One question I meant to ask was if they had any music for sale. Upon visiting BuckshotGeorge.com I got to listen to “Six Days on the Road,” and man do these guys deliver! There’s a lot going on with their sound from rock, southern elements, country and even a little punk rock spirit. I mean c’mon, you don’t get more punk rock than playing on a sidewalk! Also, I didn’t see a hat or an open guitar case. It’s almost as if playing was their payment. That’s even more rock ‘n roll!

In addition to visiting their official website, I’d recommend liking their Official Facebook Page where they post all their upcoming appearances and drop new releases. Everything about these guys is on the money. They’ve nailed their image all their own, their sound is great, and they feel the music. That’s very important and they’d do very well in a number of markets beyond Kentucky. In addition to everything I’ve already said, these guys have great personalities! I think they’d do very well in interviews and I also think they’re personable enough to meet and greet fans on a large scale. I really think if they get discovered by the right A&R people they could do very well.

The music industry has changed so much given the demise of records and CD’s. Now it’s all digital which has changed how people obtain and listen to music. For many established acts from yesteryear this shift has forced them to drastically change their approach. On the flipside labels today are still signing artists and still paying well, provided they work with the right artists. Whereas labels used to focus solely on album sales, deals today are all-inclusive. The labels have their hands in music downloads, touring revenue, and merchandise sales. A duo like Buckshot George and Dead End Dave could be very attractive to independent labels looking for a couple of guys who live and breathe their music, who are personable, and who are willing to work hard. And let me tell you, playing on a sidewalk epitomizes what being a blue collar musician is all about. These guys are paying their dues and happy to do it.

Rock on fellas!
